The CAL MED Behavioral Health Clinic

About Us

The Behavioral Health Clinic provides expert behavioral health services to active duty service members only in central and northern California, including the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and Naval Postgraduate School. The Behavioral Health Clinic also provides services to other active duty service members within the California Medical Detachment area.

Active duty family members are referred to TRICARE network behavioral health services, care and treat. Referrals for network care must be obtained from the patient’s Primary Care Manager. For more information or to follow up on referrals, patients can call the Referral Management Office at 831-242-4458 or 831-242-4426.

The Behavioral Health Clinic provides evidence based intervention and consultation services with an emphasis on healthy living for a variety of life issues including but not limited to the following:

  • Adjustment problems
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Anger
  • Phobias
  • Grief
  • Sleep issues

Specialty evaluation and treatment services using the most up to date and empirically validated methods are available for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and sexual trauma.

Additionally, the Army's Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care program, formerly known as ASAP, uses a multi-disciplinary approach to treat and provides patients the resources and support they need to overcome the challenges of illicit drug use, prescription medicine and alcohol abuse. SUDCC is co-located with the Behavioral Health Clinic.

Targeted Care

Our Behavioral Health Clinic offers targeted care. Targeted care helps us give you the right mental health support for your specific needs, whether it’s an individual appointment, group therapy or non-clinical support.

How it Works

Targeted care synchronizes and expands the resources we have to address your specific needs. The process begins with a preliminary assessment.
You’ll meet with a technician who will:
•    Listen to your concerns.
•    Assess your needs.
•    Match you to the best resource.

Options may include an appointment with:

•    A primary or specialty care consultant.
•    Military and family life counselors.
•    A chaplain.
You don’t need a referral, and you won’t be turned away or denied specialty care. Learn more about Targeted Care.
