Preventive Medicine Services

The CALMED Preventive Medicine is located on Fort Ord in Building 4390. From highway 1 heading north, take the exit to Lightfighter Drive. Turn right onto General Jim Moore Blvd. Turn left on Gigling Road. At the 3rd street, take a right on Parker Flats Cutoff Rd. The Preventive Medicine building is on your left, Building 4390.

About

Preventive Medicine’s goal is to promote, protect, optimize, and preserve the health and abilities of Service Members and military communities through delivery of the Public Health Essential Services to individuals, families, and groups.


Services Provided:

Army Public Health Nurse

  • Child Care Center/Family Day Care Health and Wellness Sanitation Surveillance.
  • Communicable Disease Prevention & Education.
  • Rabies Tracking and Prevention Education.
  • Communicable Disease.
    • STI contact tracing and education.
    • Pre and Post risk assessments (Zika Virus, Immersion Program, etc.).
  • Systems for Health/Performance Triad.

Environmental Health

  • Child Care Center/Family Day Care Sanitation Surveillance.
  • Water Quality Surveillance.
  • Entomology – Tracking and Prevention Education
  • Environmental Health Surveillance.
  • Field Sanitation Training (Held Quarterly).
  • Food-Borne Disease Investigation, Prevention and Education.
  • Food Service Inspections.
  • General Sanitation Inspections (Barber shops, CYSS facilities, Gymnasiums).
  • Heat and Cold Injury Prevention Education (Winter & Summer Safety Training).
  • Medical Threat Briefings.
  • Swimming Pools Sanitation Surveillance.
  • Tick Monitoring and Tick Borne Disease Prevention Education.
  • Mosquito Surveillance and Disease Prevention.

Industrial Hygiene

  • Conduct periodic surveys of workplace operations and provide evaluations & document occupational exposures to chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
  • Review project (new, renovation, or demolition) plans, and recommend practical corrective actions to prevent health hazards.
  • Prevent and control occupational injuries and illnesses by developing and implementing practical solutions.
  • Extensively uses DoD Defense Occupational and Environmental Health
  • Readiness System (DOEHRS) Database, to capture longitudinal exposure records for individual workers in the Department of Defense.
  • Provides advanced & sustainment workplace health and safety training
